Some Dove, Nexxus, Suave, TIGI, and TRESemmé aerosol dry shampoos have been recalled by Unilever due to the potential presence of benzene, a substance that can cause cancer.

Unilever recall Dove and other some dry shampoos for cancer-causing chemical

The Food and Drug Administration stated in an announcement on Friday that the concerned products were produced before October 2021 and supplied to stores all over the globe.

These include items like Suave Professionals Dry Shampoo Refresh and Revive, Nexxus Dry Shampoo Refreshing Mist, Dove Dry Shampoo Volume and Fullness, and Dove Dry Shampoo Fresh Coconut.

Human carcinogen benzene. According to the recall notice, exposure to benzene can happen orally, directly to the skin, or by inhalation. It can cause diseases like leukaemia and blood cancer.

The FDA advised consumers to cease using the recalled aerosol dry shampoo products and visit UnileverRecall.com for information on how to get a refund for qualifying items.

An inquiry for comment from Unilever did not immediately receive a response.

Procter & Gamble (PG) recalled more than 30 aerosol spray haircare items, including a significant number of dry shampoos and dry conditioners, last year after receiving reports that the items may have contained benzene. More than a dozen aerosol deodorants and sprays with the Old Spice and Secret brands were also subject to a similar recall by P&G last year, with a warning that the items may also contain benzene.

And L’Oréal, a cosmetics business, is being sued alongside numerous other parties on allegations that its chemical hair straightening treatments raise women’s risk of uterine cancer.
