Lukaku, 28, has had to play second fiddle to Kai Havertz in recent months as his form has deteriorated drastically.

It comes after his future was placed into question towards the end of 2021 when he did an interview where he encouraged speculations of a return to Inter Milan.

Chelsea, on the other hand, is now unable to sign or sell any players due to restrictions imposed on owner Roman Abramovich.

And Blues boss Tuchel emphasised this when pressed about Lukaku’s future at Stamford Bridge – although he did confess his standing in the squad is not where he wants it to be.

When asked about Lukaku, the Chelsea boss said: “The situation in the moment is that we cannot sell or buy players.

“Romelu still plays a big part. Maybe not the part he wants to play.

“I feel him very motivated. He’s a winner, and he will stay a winner, and stay important for us.”

Meanwhile, Barcelona president Joan Laporta almost confirmed Christensen’s free transfer to the club at the end of the season earlier this month.

Tuchel did not dismiss the rumors as the team prepares for the departure of the Danish coach.

“We heard the same rumours, yes – it’s like this,” Tuchel said about Christensen’s links with Barcelona.

“It’s not confirmed yet as I didn’t speak to Andreas about it. But we heard the same rumours, yes.”

Lukaku and Christensen both came off the bench for Saturday’s match against Brentford.

Chelsea leads Arsenal by five points, although they are 13 points behind league leaders Liverpool.
