Todd Boehly, the new owner of Chelsea, was criticised by Jurgen Klopp, the manager of Liverpool, after he revealed plans for a Premier League All-Star game.

Boehly, an American businessman, is well-versed in money-making games from his country.

A yearly game between the East and West Conference teams has long been held at the NBA.

The most recent MLB All-Star game made almost £170 million, according to Boehly, who also shares ownership of the LA Dodgers.

And a North vs. South Premier League game might bring in comparable income to help the football pyramid.

Boehly said: “People are talking about why don’t we have more money for the Pyramid?

“MLB did their All-Star game this year. They made $200m from a Monday and a Tuesday.

“You could do a North vs South All-Star game from the Premier League to fund the Pyramid very easily.”

But Klopp of Liverpool made it obvious that he does not like the concept.

Because Premier League footballers don’t get many breaks, he laughed at the idea of an All-Star game.

Furthermore, Klopp asserted that the general people would not be excited about watching such an event.

He said: “Great. When he finds a date he can call me.

“He forgets that in the big sports in America these players have four month breaks.

“They’re quite happy they can do a little bit of sports in these breaks, it’s completely different to football.

“What can I say? Does he want to bring the Harlem Globetrotters as well, and let them play against a football team?

“I’m not sure people want to see that. United, Liverpool, City, Everton players all together.

“It’s not the national team. Did he really say it?”
