On Monday, a Los Angeles judge granted the rapper, producer, and fashion designer’s request to officially change his name from Kanye Omari West to Ye, with no middle or last name.

In court documents, Judge Michelle Williams Court stated, “There being no objections, the petition for change of name is approved.”

“Personal reasons” were claimed in the petition submitted on August 24, 2021.

For years, he’s gone by the handle Ye on social media. He expressed his desire for the shift in a tweet in 2018, writing, “the being formally known as Kanye West.” “I am YE.”

His 2018 album was likewise titled with the nickname. He’s claimed in interviews that he likes it since it’s a shortening of his first name and because it’s a term that appears throughout the Bible.

The 44-year-old is divorcing Kim Kardashian West, who did not request that her surname be changed back to Kardashian when she filed for divorce from him in February 2021. His former last name is also passed down to the couple’s four children.
