According to Tosin Ajirire, a senior journalist for the Sun Newspaper in Nigeria, the Islamic group located in Nigeria that is allegedly funding Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign in Ghana has no history of supporting political parties.

Although he claims that some group members may covertly support particular candidates, the group as a whole is prohibited from funding political parties by Nigerian law.

On July 19, he remarked, “This group was formed for the purpose of achieving unity among leaders of northern origin, to achieve unity and establish progress in the northern region, that is just what the group is for in Nigeria.” He was speaking on News 360 on TV3.

When asked if the organization had ever supported political parties, Ajirire responded, “No. Even though some of their members are able to do so, they cannot fund an underground political party. They cannot claim to be sponsoring a political party because that is against Nigerian law, but they may provide money collectively to individual political figures who are not parties.

In the meantime, the Dr. Bawumia camp has angrily denied the assertion made by Nigerian journalist David Humdeyin that he is receiving funding from the organization.

On Wednesday, July 19, the Vice President’s campaign staff emphasized, “For the avoidance of doubt, the Bawumia Campaign has no funding or any linkage with any Islamic group in Nigeria or anywhere else.”

The Communication Directorate released a statement that said this.

In the statement, David Humdeyin was charged with spreading unfounded statements about various individuals and groups in Nigeria.

The Dr. Bawumia campaign team believes that in light of the “obviously false” and “fabricated” statements, which “only serve the propaganda purposes of its promoters,” they would not be diverted.

“The Bawumia Campaign is focused and won’t be sidetracked by such vain untruths. “The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has been very meticulous and transparent from his days as a scholar, banker, and politician throughout his life and will not depart from these now and forever.”

On the second phase of his campaign visit, the vice president is presently in the Ashanti Region.

On July 19, Mr. Mac Manu declared on the Hot Edition on 3FM, “I associate myself with the response from the Bawumia campaign team that it is not true, absolute falsehood.”

“I have the firm belief that what the Bawumia team has said is the truthfulness of the case,” he insisted. “It is meant to tarnish the image of Dr. Bawumia and the NPP, and we will not accept that.”
