The Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, has stated that the government’s payroll is full, and that the youth must go into business to help the economy grow.

He explained that the government’s responsibility is to provide an enabling climate for business and to establish micro-stability in the country, noting that 60% of the government’s earnings is utilized to pay 650,000 Ghanaians.

“At this point, the most important thing for you in terms of jobs is the future, and we’ve gone through a period where most people look for work in government or state institutions, but their payrolls are full.”

“I can tell you that because we are spending almost 60% of our earnings on remunerating some 650,000 individuals, and it is not sustainable,” he told the University of Professional Studies-2021 Accra’s graduating class (UPSA).

Entrepreneurship and credit, he believes, are critical components in ensuring young sustainability and providing them with the opportunity to forge their own route to prosperity.
