Niclas Fullkrug’s late equaliser gave Hansi Flick’s team a critical draw on Sunday evening, maintaining their chances of advancing to the round of 16 in Qatar.

They now believe that a victory over Costa Rica on Thursday might be sufficient to advance them beyond the group.

They might run into trouble off the field, though, for not abiding by Fifa rules in the lead-up to the game.

According to German publication MDR Aktuell, Flick broke the rules by attending the pre-match press conference without a Germany player.

Each World Cup team is obligated to send a player from their team to the news conference prior to each game.

Germany may now be in trouble with the organisation in charge of regulating football due to their failure to do so.

Flick is also worried about other things.

After Spain’s performance, the Germany coach acknowledged that although his squad did manage to snag a point, he is still concerned about the team’s mentality.

He said: “I think that the team needs more self confidence.

“I think that things start to develop when you start to win but maybe this will give us a boost to have the self confidence to get more goals.

“We need the determination of Niclas Fullkrug.”

Germany seeks to avoid leaving the World Cup before the knockout rounds for a second time in a row.
