Former President John Dramani Mahama has thanked the residents of Assin North in the Central Region for James Gyakye Quayson’s victory in the by-election on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, June 27, Mr. Gyakye Quayson won reelection after the courts nullified his election in 2020.

He defeated Charles Opoku of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Bernice Enyonam Sefenu of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) by receiving 17,245 of the total valid votes, or 57.56%.

Former President Mahama thanked the voters on his official Twitter page on Wednesday, June 28, after visiting the Assin North Constituency twice to campaign before the by-election.

According to him, the results of the ballots represent a rejection of the “non-performing NPP” and a message of support for Mr. Gyakye Quayson.

“Your vote for justice and development is truly inspiring,” he continued.

All were urged to “keep working together to build the Ghana we all dream of,” he concluded.
