The Portuguese skipper sent a heartfelt message to the supporters of Manchester United in which he promised to always “love” the team and expressed his wishes for success.

Ronaldo released the following statement: “Following talks with Manchester United, we’ve mutually agreed to end our contract.

“I love Manchester United and I love the fans, that will never ever change.

“It feels like the right time to seek a new challenge. I wish Man Utd all the best”.

During a recent interview with Morgan, Ronaldo lashed out at the team and said he feels “betrayed” by United.

The five-time winner of the Ballon d’Or also took aim at former teammates Wayne Rooney and Gary Neville as well as manager Erik ten Hag and the Glazers.

The club icon’s departure from Old Trafford was officially announced by United in a direct statement.

It reads: “Cristiano Ronaldo is to leave Manchester United by mutual agreement, with immediate effect.

“The club thanks him for his immense contribution across two spells at Old Trafford, scoring 145 goals in 346 appearances, and wishes him and his family well for the future.

“Everyone at Manchester United remains focused on continuing the team’s progress under Erik ten Hag and working together to deliver success on the pitch.”

The information was released less than 48 hours before Ronaldo’s sixth World Cup campaign with Portugal gets underway.
