Thibaut Courtois has revealed the key to Lionel Messi’s penalty save.

In Real Madrid’s 1-0 Champions League loss to Paris Saint-Germain, the goalie made a stunning save from the spot.

After Kylian Mbappe was taken out midway through the second half, ex-Barcelona star Lionel Messi was given the opportunity to score in the first leg of the last-16 encounter.

Courtois, on the other hand, had done his homework and dove to his left, saving Messi’s shot.

Due to Messi’s past, the former Chelsea ace has recently stated that there were various choices.

Courtois was confident there was only one side he would fire at after analyzing the Argentina star’s recent misses from the spot.

Courtois told BT Sport: “Obviously he shoots a lot of penalties in a season so it’s hard to guess right.

“But he missed a few ones on this side [the right] so I think it was obvious he was going to the left.

“Maybe in the middle he scored one against Leipzig, so I just said ‘okay we will go left’ and I had a good save.”

Courtois also made several top saves to keep PSG at bay throughout the match.
